Computer Classes

The Library offers an array of computer classes for both the novice and the advanced computer user. Schedule and Class Descriptions are below.

Space is limited - Registration is required. Please call appropriate branch to register.

 
Computer Basics
– Prerequisites: None
This 2 hour class will focus on the basics of computer hardware and software, how to find and open programs, and using the Internet.  Class time will also include some hands-on exercises.

Internet Searching Basics
– Prerequisites: None
This 2 hour class focuses on Internet navigation and search strategies for those new to the Internet.  Basic computer parts are also discussed and plenty of practice using the mouse is included during the hands-on exercises.

Advanced Internet Searching
– Prerequisites: Must know how to use the mouse and be proficient using the Internet.
This 2 hour class will focus on the searching options available on the Internet.  Topics covered will include advanced searching tips and using specialized search engines and directories.

MS Word Basics
– Prerequisites: Some experience using the mouse helpful.
Learn the basic functions for creating documents in Microsoft Word for Windows in this 2 hour class.  Saving and retrieving a document, how to use the Word toolbars, and how to print will be demonstrated.  Also included will be hands-on practice editing a Word document.

Advanced MS Word
– Prerequisites: Must know how to use the mouse, must know how to use the Word toolbars.
In this 2 hour class we will explore the Word toolbar functions in greater depth.  Topics covered will include learning how to create columns, insert and manipulate text boxes, and how to use bulleting and numbering.

Excel Basics (2003)
– Prerequisites: Some experience with other Microsoft programs helpful.
This 2 hour class is for those new to Excel.  The basics of Excel spreadsheets will be explained and formatting cells and creating simple formulas will be demonstrated and practiced.

Special Topics
To be announced – these 1 hour classes will be offered on a rotating basis through-out the year in the Kaplan Auditorium and will cover current technologies.
